Sony denies PlayStation was hacked

Sony has rejected claims that PlayStation Network was hacked, following an alleged attack on Sony’s online gaming service and a number of others. According to CNET, a hacker group that claimed responsibility for a denial-of-service attack on World of Warcraft’s servers over the weekend also claims to have accessed and published details for thousands of PlayStation Network, Windows Live, and 2K Games accounts. However, Sony have said that in PlayStation’s case, at least, this isn’t true. A spokesperson sent the following statement to Joystiq. “We have investigated the claims that our network was breached and have found no evidence that there was any intrusion into our network. Unfortunately, Internet fraud including phishing and password matching are realities that consumers and online networks face on a regular basis. We take these reports very seriously and will continue to monitor our network closely.” A Twitter account for the hacker group and a PasteBin document containing the alleged account details have since been taken down. -NZGamer
