A Portuguese hacker who uses the online moniker “Touch” has breached and defaced the official website of the city of Cebu (cebucity.gov.ph), the capital of the province of Cebu and the second largest city in the Philippines.
It’s uncertain why the hacker has targeted the website of the Cebu city government, but judging by the defacement page, he has simply done it to show off his skills and demonstrate that the website is vulnerable.
At the time of writing, the website of Cebu is offline.
Philippines government websites are often targeted by hackers. However, it appears that authorities are having difficulties in securing even the most high-profile websites.
Earlier this year, the website of the city of Cebu was defaced by the notorious Indonesian hacker Hmei7.
City representatives cited by the Sun Star say that they’re uncertain why anyone would target the website since it doesn’t store any classified information.
