Bank of the West has started notifying job applicants that the information they’ve submitted on the financial institution’s website might have been stolen by hackers.
The breach was discovered on December 19, 2013, but the organizations started notifying individuals only earlier this month.
According to the letter submitted by the company to the California Office of the Attorney General, there’s no evidence that theinformation has been taken.
However, the attackers could have obtained usernames and passwords utilized to create accounts on the site, names, addresses, dates of birth, social security numbers, and driver’s license information – depending on what type of data applicants have submitted.
The Bank of the West is working with law enforcement on investigating the incident. Impacted individuals are being offered one year of free identity protection services through First Watch ID.
