Hacker Barnaby Jack Died of Drug Overdose, Not Killed by Government Agency

Barnaby Jack died of drug overdose

Barnaby Jack, the 35-year-old information security expert who died this summer in suspicious circumstances, wasn’t killed by CIA agents. A medical report shows that the cause of death is “acute mixed drug intoxication.”

The coroner’s report obtained by The Verge shows that the hacker overdosed on cocaine, heroin, alprazolam and diphenhydramine.

Barnaby Jack died just before he should have made a presentation at the Black Hat security conference on how to remotely hack medical devices such as insulin pumps and pacemakers.

He was found by his girlfriend in their apartment. Bottles of beer and champagne were found in the garbage can.

Shortly after his sudden death, since there wasn’t any official news on how he died, many suspected foul play. The most common conspiracy theory was that he was killed by a US government agency like the CIA.

Others said the medical companies whose products he had tested killed him.
